Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)A big, warm, 'Thank You' to all that have sent emails with questions... but since I seem to answer the same questions over and over... it's time for an FAQ page! Is the book updated for the new LightSpeed 3?No. But it will be soon. Read below for reasons on why the book is still a valid resource but it's important to know that the book was written in 2008 and while some concepts haven't changed, some parts of the book will be out of date with the current version. If this is a concern, I invite you to come back this fall and purchase the new edition when it comes out. If you'd like to be notified when the new edition is available, simply fill out the registration form and note in the comments section that you are waiting for the next edition. Is your book out of date now that LightSpeed 3 is out?Yes and No. My book deals mostly with concepts that don't change from one version to the next. Specific tasks such as creating customers, products, quotes, orders and invoices... all stay the same. Workflows such as how to add freight to a purchase order... or how to return product to a supplier... or how to take a deposit on an order... these have not changed and thus are still valuable. Yes, the screen shots need to be updated. Yes, there are some new features that need to be included such as quantity pricing. Yes, the entire chapter on the POS screen needs to be updated and the new Multi Store features need to be documented... but I still feel that there is value in rest of the content. Will there be a new edition of the book that will be updated for LightSpeed 3?Yes, I am working on a new edition. The first part of the book walks the reader through the interface and the interface, specifically the POS mode, has changed. So, this needs to be updated. The rest of the book, however, discusses workflow and ideas on how to handle specific problems faced by users while running a business with LightSpeed. These won't change too much but I would like to expand on it. When will there be a new edition of the book?I'm working on the 2nd Edition now as I catch up with the changes in LightSpeed 3, but I don't expect to have it ready until Fall 2010. Will there be a discount for existing book owners on the new edition of the book? No. Sorry. First, my publisher's shopping cart system has no provision for offering a coupon of my own. Second, the sales of the book barely pay for my time writing it and sales of a new edition are necessary to fund its creation. I have considered not writing a new edition because it's a not a great business model on it's own but I feel that it's important for the LightSpeed community to have such a book and so, I'll continue to write new editions as long as its appreciated by the community. That appreciation is best shown through book sales. |
