Addendum

After any book goes to print, there are often corrections or updates that need to be made in order to keep the content current and accurate. This section of the website is intended to keep you abreast of any updates that need to be made to the book that you may already own. It's a good idea to check back here regularly or register your book to receive emails when content is updated.

On Purchases & Inventory (page 102)

At the time of writing, LightSpeed exhibited a strange behaviour that caused the cost of a posted or exported invoice to change if the purchase order of one of the items on the invoice changed. At some point, this bug was fixed so you can pretty much disregard the second half of this page in the book.

On Currencies (page 32)

It turns out, that there is a better way to work with currencies then I had originally thought. I didn't think that this feature originally existed but if a document is in a currency other than your default currency, you can now click on 'Total' and adjust the conversion rate for that document. It's a hidden button and the fact that you are allowed to enter a conversion rate in the Currencies setup window may confuse some people. Thanks to the folks at Xsilva for pointing this out!

On Selling Price & Minimum Margin (page 46)

The 'minimum margin' field does not work the way that I describe it in this section. It does not help you calculate selling price based on a margin. Instead, it allows you to set a minimum margin that will trigger an alert if someone attempts to sell it for less. All I can say is that there were some late nights while I was putting this book together and I'm blaming this one on lack of sleep. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

On Current vs. Non-Current Product (page 47, step 11)

One reader felt that I should have mentioned here that non-current products will still show up until all stock is depleted. Fair enough.

On Editable Selling Prices (page 47, step 13)

It should be noted that the key difference in having this checked is whether or not the change in price will be displayed as a discount or simply changed. When this box is checked, there is no indication that you've changed the price as you simply type in the price you wish. Otherwise, you are prompted for a dollar or percentage amount and this is shown as a discount on the line item. Turning off 'Show Discounts' in the Options tab of the document should prevent this from displaying but that will affect all items.

On End of Day Procedures (page 68, step 2)

This paragraph states that you can skip this step if you use LightSpeed's credit card authorization feature. It says this because the End of Day report will be your batch report. In a system that keeps the credit card processing separate from LightSpeed, you need to compare the two systems to ensure accuracy. However, this is not required if everything is done within LightSpeed.

On Printing SROs (page 79, step 5)

When I wrote this section, LightSpeed didn't print a claim check for SROs. Now, instead of printing two copies of the SRO, there is an option located in the action menu (gear box at the bottom) to print an SRO Claim Check. Very cool!

On Accounts Receivable and Opening Balances (page 97)

Figure 106 shows a product that I recommend creating in order to help with opening balances. This product is now included in newer versions of LightSpeed but it may be marked as non-current. Search for non-current products in the browser to find it but it's not necessary to mark it as current in order to use it.

On Consignment Items (page 130, step 3)

If a product has never seen a purchase order, LightSpeed will use the cost provided within the product window. If no cost, is found, then it will assign it a cost of zero. I failed to mention that and said that it will always be zero if it has never been purchased and that's not true.

On Setting up iStats (page 151, step 1)

It is important to note here that the uploaded iPhone directory is named, 'iphone' and must remain so.

On Setting up Multi-Store (page 162)

A newer version of LightSpeed than the one I use for this chapter has a 'Store Code' field in the Options section of the Multi-Store Setup panel. Each store must have this setup and a store code specified for itself before other stores can be configured to connect to it.
